Nothing but blackness above, And nothing that moves but the cars...God, if you wish for our love, Fling us a handful of stars!" -Louis Untermeyer

So I, as usual, have been very preoccupied, and really shouldn't be blogging right now. Yet here I am.

I can't believe I'm almost done with my first semester in the PDS?! How long I waited for this part of my career development to begin, and now a third of it is over. It's been an interesting semester. I felt it was a strange mix of college and high school, class-wise. Some of the people in my cohort would say how this has been there hardest semester. I think last semester was pretty difficult as well for me....those upper division HDF classes weren't that easy. And at the same time, I felt the writing assignments were similar to what I did junior and senior year of high school. The only difference is that the writing I'm doing now has  more to do abot personal development, like writing with a purpose.

A year ago I wrote about simple things, like helping my sister shop for her summer and meeting with my friends and worrying about grades. This spring, grades are still important (i really want that medal at some point, and finally sumi agrees after going to honors day with me), but i don't know half my grades, so that isn't worth worrying about right now. Instead I hope to improve my teaching abilities this summer. I've been interviewing for this teaching assistant job in a downtown private elementary school. I have the second part of the interview, the observation part, this Friday. iA it will go really well. I need to work on being more assertive....I don't want my future students to walk all over me. I've always felt so easygoing and laid back, I'm not the type to worry too much, and now that is what's making me be less of a teacher. I want to be ready for next semester, which is supposed to be the hardest semester as well as (possibly) the best because I'll get to have older students.

Oh I should write about my last at Barton Hills. My cute kindergarteners were all so wonderful! On Tuesday, in the morning they surprised me and Priscilla, the other cohort a student, with laminated books with a letter from each of them in it. It is just precious. On the front there is a picture of each of them. At the end of the day, we had a little "party" which meant that the kids got an extra recess and we all had a popsicle. I got to swing on the swings with the kids and talk to them, and I realized how much I truly was gonna miss them. The next day we gave our CT a Macy's gift card, for those days you wish you worked there, haha...that's what she always says after a hard day. We gave all the kids bubbles, a granola bar, and mechanical pencils that are in various colors...I was surprised at how much the kids were excited about having their own mechanical pencil. Then before we left, they each gave us a hug and a few left for lunch crying a little. I'm pretty sure they were better by centers time, sine 5 year old kids tend to get over things pretty quickly.

Now I'm gonna go back to finishing my poetry project that's due in a little over an hour. Here's a sampling for those who like poems:

Turtles!

Turtles turtles
everywhere
turtles tangled
in my hair

Yank them out
Set them free
See them wiggle
towards the sea

Unlucky Weather

Falling,
     falling
very slowly
sudden change
crash,
splash,
standing and soaked
in my new blue
raincoat
